PRODUCT LABELING
All products containing non-metallic seals have been listed and labeled resulting from a determination by a certified fire laboratory that products are certified to meet the standards of UBC 7-2, Part I for fire. These products will either be labeled Category J, not contributing to the flaming during a fire, or Category G, for use with a fire door that requires an edge sealing system.
A number of gaskets offered will also meet the standards for UBC 7-2, Part II for smoke. These products will be labeled Category H for their ability to control smoke at an elevated temperature of 400 degrees F (204 degrees C).
Smoke seals are used on the frames of doors that have an "S" on their fire-rating label to complete the installation instructions and satisfy the code requirements for a smoke control door.
Gasketing materials for fire doors are classified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., and are intended for application to steel-covered composite and hollow metal type fire doors that are rated up to 3 hours and for woodcovered composite and wood core doors that are rated up to a half-hour.
