- > Do these exit devices offer SquareBolt® security? No, the PED4000/PED5000 Series are not available with SquareBolt® security.
- > Is the PED4000/PED5000 Series AFF (above finish floor) same as the ED4000/ED5000 Series exit device?
Yes, the AFF is 39-5/8". See product installation instructions for accurate door preparation.
> Will the PED4000/PED5000 Series exit device have the same windstorm ratings as the ED4000/ ED5000?
No. The PED4000/PED5000 Series has different ratings.
> Can I cut PED4000/PED5000 Series exit device to size in the field?
Yes, you can cut the rails to size in the field by using the new cutting guide included in the installation instructions. However, is it recommended that devices are ordered for the proper door size and cut at the factory.
All devices with Alarm (M61) and Delayed Egress (D) options should be ordered for the proper door size and cut at the factory. It is not recommended to cut devices with these options in the field.
> Can I retrofit the PED4000/PED5000 Series exit device to an existing ED4000/ED5000 Series exit device openings?
The Rim device mounting holes are the same for seamless upgrading. However, the mounting holes are different for mortise, surface vertical rod (SVR), and concealed vertical rod (CVR) devices and you will need to replace your door.
> Is a narrow stile surface vertical rod (SVR) device available?
No, the PED4000 Series is not available as a Surface Vertical Rod (SVR) device.
> Is a narrow stile mortise device available? Yes, we the PED4600 Series is available.
> Can I order mechanical dogging on a fire rated device?
No, fire rated device standards do not allow a dogging option. However, if your system is tied into a fire alarm system you can order a dogging fire rated device with the Electric Latch Retraction (ELR) option.
- > What is the difference between the PED4000 Series and the PED5000 Series exit devices? The PED4000 Series is a narrow stile exit device and the PED5000 Series is a wide stile exit device.
- > What is the difference between the 900PT Wide Stile Trim and 800PT Narrow Stile Trim? The only difference between the two trims are the measurements. The 800PT Narrow trim measures at 2.13" x 8.09" and the 900PT Wide trim measures at 2.68" x 9.35".
- > Does the PED4000/PED5000 Series exit device offer freewheeling trim function?
Yes, the same freewheeling functions are available.
> What functions are available in the PED4000/ PED5000 Series Exit device?
The same functions available for the ED4000/ED5000 Series are available for the PED4000/PED5000 Series.
> Is the PED4000/PED5000 Series trim re-handing method the same as the ED4000/ED5000 Series trim?
No, re-handing the PED4000/PED5000 Series trim is different than the ED4000/ED5000 Series trim. Rigid trim and freewheeling trim now have different methods for re-handing and are outlined in the new installation instructions.
> Is the motor for the PED4000/PED5000 Series EcoFlex® trim field replaceable?
Yes, the motor and harness can be ordered separately. For specific part numbers see the parts manual.
> Does the new 800PT and 900PT trim retrofit with the ED4000/ED5000 Series exit devices?
No, the new 800PT and 900PT Trims are not compatible with any other exit device.

Exit Devices
> Are the concealed vertical rods (CVR) for the PED4000/PED5000 adjusted the same as the existing ED4000/ED5000 Series?
No, the PED4800 and PED5800 provide rod adjustment within the center case which is outlined in the installation instructions.
> Can I cut the rods for the PED4000/PED5000 vertical rods devices?
No, as the existing ED4000/ED5000 Series, the rods come cut to size. Specify the door height and AFF (above finish floor) when ordering.
> What is the difference between Split Finish and Mixed Finish?
Split Finish refers to using one finish on the outside trim and another finish on the exit device itself (i.e., BSP on the trim and 630 on the exit device).
Mixed Finish refers to using multiple finishes on the exit device itself, not the trim, such as 630 on the rail/ chassis and BSP on the push pad. Mixed finishes are exclusive to the PED4000/PED5000 Series devices.
- > Can I specify any mixed finishes combination? There are 8 mixed finishes options available to order in the PED4000/PED5000 Series catalog; However, if you require a specific combination, please contact your local Door Security Solutions representative.
- > Does the PED4000 Series narrow stile exit device work with electronic access control products?
- > No, only wide stile exit devices are compatible with integrated readers. However, both wide and narrow stile devices are compatible with other electrical mechanical options such as latch retraction, request to exit, and alarms.
> What electronic access control products are available with the PED5000 Series?
The PED5000 Series is available with the SN200/210 Series and IN100/120/220 Series electronic access control products.

Wires for options (D, MELR, M91, M93, M97) and all applicable electromechanical EcoFlex® trim functions (903, 905, 910, 930), options (D, MELR, M91, M93, M97) are contained within the carrier, eliminating the need for cavities in doors to be drilled. This makes installation and upgrades easier and faster.
