Instructions for Installing SOSS® #218 and #220 Power Transfer Hinges

All SOSS® Invisible Hinges are packaged with detailed instructions and paper router guide template. You may also use the SOSS® Wooden Router Guide Template #218IT or #220IT for the appropriate hinge. (Recommended).

The SOSS® #218PT is for use in wood or metal doors that are 1-3/4" (44.45 mm) thick.

The SOSS® #220PT is for use in wood or metal doors that are 2" (50.8 mm) thick or thicker.

Both hinge models are supplied with 48" (121.9 cm) of wire on one side and 12" (30.5 cm) of wire on the other side. The maximum amperage for SOSS Invisible Power Transfer Hinges is 2.5 amps @ 24VDC.

IMPORTANT

SOSS® POWER TRANSFER HINGES are for use with 4 or 6 wire applications.

Prep your doors and frames for SOSS® Invisible Hinges as directed in the attached Instruction Sheet. The SOSS® Power Transfer Hinges must be used in conjunction with SOSS® Invisible Hinges.

Maximum load for 218PT and 220PT - 35 lbs./16 kg.

CAUTION: Do not connect these wires to wires that are larger than 18 AWG gauge.

An access hole for the wires must be drilled from the hinge mortise closest to the middle of the door, depending upon the number of SOSS® Invisible Hinges needed for the application to the access door for the door mechanism. See diagram below.

It is best to install the SOSS® Power Transfer Hinge while the door is upright, in a vertical position, opened to 90° or more for easier access.

Extract interior wiring through the prep holes from door and jamb.

Install top and bottom SOSS® Invisible Hinges to support the door on the frame.

When installing the SOSS® Power Transfer Hinge, follow wiring instructions/diagrams provided by Electronic Device manufacturer.

Terminate wire connections with appropriate crimp splices or wire nuts. Note: It is helpful to stagger wire terminations; this allows for easier insertion of wires through prep holes.

Do not hang SOSS® Power Transfer Hinge by wires during installation, serious damage could occur.

Insulate all ends of unused wires.

After all wire terminations are completed, carefully slide wires through prep hole making sure that wires are placed so they will not be cut or pinched as hinge is installed.

IMPORTANT

Wire Gauge Size: 24 and 26 AWG (For both 218PT and 220PT Hinges)

• 1 For devices requiring more than 2.5 AMP, do not use SOSS® Power Transfer Hinge.
• 2 Make sure that same colored wires are connected properly on both sides of hinge.
• 3 Maximum total current for a four wire hinge is two times the maximum current shown in the electrical ratings chart: 2 wires current in., 2 wires current out of door.
