Field Finishing Lite Kits or Door Louvers
National Guard Products metal lite kits and door louvers with Gray Primer (GPZ) and Beige Primer (BPR) have specially formulated powder coat finishes designed for field painting, with little or no surface preparation. All other colors are durable powder coat finishes designed to serve as the top coat. Field painting over these colors will require substantial surface preparation to allow paint adherence. When field painting, many factors affect the process, including the method of application, the type of paint and compatibility with metals, as well as jobsite conditions such as weather, humidity and dust.
For best results, we recommend the following:
- 1. Scuff surface with a Scotch-Brite pad to break gloss of the factory powder coat finish without exposing the raw material. This step is not required on Gray (GPZ) or Beige (BPR) primer.
- 2. The vision lite kit or door louver surface must be clean and dry prior to painting.
- 3. Apply good quality, air dry enamel suitable for metal; sprayed is preferable, to complete the job. Repeat steps above if additional coats are required.
- 4. Field painting should be done upon installation of product, including exterior applications.
*NOTE: A good quality primer may be required by the paint manufacturer to ensure compatibility and uniform finish.
