Installing an inside cylinder on an existing mortise lock can be frustrating to center correctly. The HIT-21 will make the job fast, accurate and easy. You don't even have to take the mortise lock out of the door. Just remove the outside cylinder, thread the HIT-21 into the mortise case until it contacts the mortise cavity on the opposite side. Next drill a pilot hole then come from the outside in with a hole saw. Nothing could be easier!

These are the most important tools that you will use in this installation.

Always use eye and ear protection!!

The HIT-21 is used to locate and accurately drill the inside cylinder hole for a mortise lock when retrofitting a single cylinder to a double cylinder lock.

First remove the lock faceplate and loosen the cylinder retaining screw.

Next remove the outside mortise cylinder and replace with the HIT-21 drill guide.

Thread the drill guide in until it makes contact with the inside of the mortise pocket.

Shown at right is a drill with a 1/4" drill bit. The center of the HIT-21 has a hardened steel sleeve.

Drill from the outside thru the mortise pocket. Drill slow, you don't want to blow out the other side.

The 1/4" diameter hole is now in the center of where the cylinder will be located.

Replace the pilot bit of your hole saw with the supplied drill blank.

Drill the cylinder hole. Use a low RPM and back the hole saw out several times when drilling to remove chips.

When the hole is drilled, remove the HIT-21 drill guide.

You will have a perfectly drilled cylinder hole.

Install the outside and inside cylinders and replace the lock faceplate.

Check for proper operation.

That's all there is to it!
