INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR BB-100 SERIES BLOCKADE BAR
Determine the height to mount the Blockade Bar. The 1" square tube unit that mounts to door can be centered , leveled and used as a template.
Caution decal has been installed on door
Another method to locate the bar is to draw a faint horizontal pencil line with the use of a level. Next determine the center of the opening and make two marks spaced equally from the center line.
For the BB-100-36" bar the dimension is 29-1/2" ( 14-3/4" on each side of center. )
For the BB-100-42" bar the dimension is 35-1/2" ( 17-3/4" on each side of center. )
For the BB-100-48" bar the dimension is 41-1/2" ( 20-3/4" on each side of center. )
Drill a 5/16" hole through the door from inside to outside. The use of a drill guide to drill straight is recommended.
Next enlarge the outside hole to 3/8", do not drill through to inside.
This is the fastener used to mount the inside bar. Simply place it in the hole and tap in with a hammer. The larger 3/8" hole will make it easier to set the bolt.
The 1" bar is set over the threaded bolt on the inside of the door and secured with the special fastener. Tighten with a 9/16" wrench until snug.
Thread a nut onto each of the "L" bolts as shown in the picture. Thread another nut on the opposite side so the "L" bolt is loosely secured.
Drop the "L" bolts into the two holes on the door mounted bar.
Next adjust the nuts on the "L" bolt so there is about 1/8" to 3/16" clearance between the bar and door frame. This will allow free travel if the door warps or distorts in the heat or cold.
Tighten both nuts with a 3/4" wrench. Make sure the minimum clearance between the bar and jamb is maintained.
Apply the supplied thread locker to the threads on both sides of the nuts as shown. The thread locker has wicking characteristics so it is not necessary to dissemble the bolt to apply.
Install the rubber end caps to the exposed thread ends.
Completed installation is shown at right.
Install storage bracket next to door. Blockade Bar may be secured to bracket with a standard shackle padlock or with a long shackle padlock going through both holes as shown at far right.
