Door hardware may only be a small percentage of the cost of the construction process, but it encompasses 90 percent of what's touched in a building—and it's often one of the largest problem areas at the end of your project as you obtain your Certificate of Occupancy.
You're responsible for constructing a large building. We can help you minimize the issues that can come with poorly specified door hardware, such as construction delays, unnecessary change orders, added costs and most of all, frustrated clients.
We can help!
We offer experience and expertise that dates back to the first "panic release bar" in 1908—a device we designed after a theatre fire claimed nearly 600 lives simply because a door wouldn't open from the inside. Today, that needless loss remains part of the underpinning current that motivates our team of professionals to construct security solutions that meet the needs of commercial facilities of varying sizes and functions.
Allegion products are designed to function in a way that meets the operational and security needs of a facility. We offer an extensive range of experience with electronic and mechanical hardware, doors and frames that meet even the most demanding code requirements.
Our expertise covers a variety of project types:
- Commercial. From upscale office space to high traffic retail environments we specify solutions that live up to the demands of your project.
- Education. Our experts have experience developing security solutions for any learning environment, from K-12 schools to multi-building university campuses.
- Healthcare. We offer healthcare solutions to secure patients, employees and patient records in hospitals, medical centers, doctor's offices, nursing homes and clinics.
- Government. From FIPS-201 compliance to the Buy America Act, we provide solutions for federal, state and local projects, as well as Veteran's Affairs facilities.
Our hardware consultants know their stuff
We have more than 150 hardware consultants located across the nation who are all well-versed on local and national building codes; the unique needs of various types of facilities; and access control and egress requirements—all the things you need in a complete door and hardware solution.
How we can help
Specification consulting services
- Spec consultation on Divisions 087100 and 081100. We can write a specification for you or consult on your existing specification to help identify the best solution for each specific project.
- Code consultation on accessibility and fire life safety codes. We keep up with changes to applicable codes and regulations, and can help ensure your building meets all requirements when it's finished. You can keep up to date on current code issues on our blog, iDigHardware.com.
- Submittal reviews and RFAs. We will review submittals, requests for approval, substitution requests and value engineering to determine if the products meet the specification performance requirements and to ensure they work flawlessly with other products in the specification.
- Pre-installation meetings. Our consultants are happy to join you for a pre-installation meeting to review the products specified for the project, train your installers on product installation, and review any specific issues that may arise.
- Post-installation inspections. We will walk the jobsite with you to review door operation and installation of products, which can result in reduced warranty issues, fire door inspection failures and egress door inspection failures.
Access control coordination
Well-coordinated access control solutions don't just happen. They are the result of a well-planned and executed design and installation. Our reputation for quality mechanical hardware is well documented. However, that reputation applies to electronic access control products, as well. We offer a single source option for both mechanical and electronic access control.
- Operational descriptions. We can provide descriptions of how each door will operate based on the set of products specified for the opening.
- Documentation. We will provide elevations, point-to-point diagrams, and other documentation as needed.
- Cover scope gaps. Our consultants can ensure that all of the necessary products and considerations are identified to ensure installation of a complete opening solution that operates per your requirements.
- Coordination of professionals. From mechanical hardware installers to electronic experts and security consultants, we can help coordinate a complete security solution.
We write specs for more than 9,000 projects per year, amounting to approximately 1,491,000 door leaves.
