w What are Dutch Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS® readers?

HID Global's Rijkspas-compliant smart card readers are designed for Dutch Government agencies adopting MIFARE® DESFire® EV1 smart card technology as required by the Rijkspas specification. Frequently Asked Questions answers any questions you have regarding the revision C iCLASS Keypad reader.

w Are Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers available in all form factors that iCLASS is available in today?

No. The following models are available:

• RS10 Mullion Mount Reader
• RS40 US, European and Asian Back Box Mount Reader
• RSK40 US, European and Asian Back Box Mount Reader Keypad Reader
• RSP40 US, European and Asian Back Box Mount Reader multiCLASS Reader

w Are Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers available in pigtail and terminal variants?

No. multCLASS readers are available with pigtail only. All other readers are available with terminal only.

w Do Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers require field configuration of keys for the Rijkspas application?

Yes. Readers are supplied with a base key set and will require configuration in the field. This is undertaken by a Dutch Government agency that will complete the final configuration of the reader. The agency will also carry out field tests to provide final approval of the installation complete installation including the access control system itself.

w Can Rijskpas-compliant iCLASS readers process MIFARE® Classic credentials alongside the Rijkspas application?

Yes. The reader can process custom MIFARE® Classic credential applications, including many SmartID format configurations, while concurrently processing Rijkspas DESFire EV1 credential application. Please work with your HID technical support representative to define custom applications for iCLASS Rijkspas readers.

w Can MIFARE Classic support be switched off?

Yes. Support for MIFARE Classic can be disabled at any time, simply be presenting a configuration card.

w Can MIFARE Classic CSN be used simultaneously with custom MIFARE and Rijkspas?

Yes. MIFARE CSN output options are: When configured for custom MIFARE, if the custom MIFARE credential application is not found, the MIFARE CSN will be output. If the custom MIFARE credential application is found, only the credential application will be output.

iCLASS® Rijkspas Reader

w Does the Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS reader support custom MIFARE® DESFire® EV1 applications?

No. Rijkspas credentials are based on DESFire EV1 technology with a specific Rijspas security application. The Rijkspas reader does not support custom (non-Rijkspas) configuration of the reader's DESFire EV1 application. Following shortly after Rijkspas is an HID reader that supports custom DESFire EV1 configurations.

w Is it possible for Rijskpas-compliant iCLASS readers to support iCLASS credentials?

Yes. It is not possible however to support the Rijkspas application and iCLASS credentials simultaneously. The reader must be re-configured to enable the support of iCLASS credentials, which will disable the Rijkspas application.

w Which 125 kHz proximity technologies are supported by multiCLASS® Rijkspas readers?

The RSP40 multiCLASS Rijkspas-compliant reader supports HID proximity credentials.

w Is HID Prox simultaneously available with custom MIFARE®, MIFARE CSN and Rijkspas?

Yes.

w Are standard iCLASS configuration cards for LED or buzzer operation compatible with the iCLASS Rijkspas reader?

No. Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers utilize a JCOP Microprocssor based credential for configuration of reader behaviour. This introduces the technique of trusted Identity to the configuration of the reader thus securing against the possibility of configuration cards being created by "trusted sources".

w Can my existing iCLASS readers be upgraded to support the Rijkspas application?

No. The Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS reader features an embedded SAM (Secure application module) used for all cryptographic operations for the Rijkspas application. This facility does not exist in other iCLASS readers and they therefore cannot support the Rijkspas application.

w Are spacers available for Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers?

Yes. Spacers are available for all variants of Rijkspas-compliant iCLASS readers providing: a. Clearance for flush-mount of terminal readers, b. Sufficient spacing from metal surfaces to overcome read range issues c. Top and bottom cable entry points for surface cabling installation.
