Authenticity assured.

Secure personal identification has become a cornerstone of increased national security in countries around the world. HID Global electronic documents such as e-national ID cards, e-passports and e-visas pose formidable challenges to counterfeiters, identity thieves and terrorists. An e-passport may look like a traditional printed travel document. But the embedded HID e-document technology contains encrypted biometric data that authenticates the identity of the passport holder. Card-based credentials can be protected from counterfeiting with an HID holographic overlaminate that includes optically variable security elements, some just a few microns in size.

Passports without borders.

While e-passports, e-visas and other forms of secure electronic identification are erasing traditional barriers to international travel, they're also creating a few challenges of their own. Specifically, the problem of interoperability. What assures that the e-passport issued by one country will be readable by another country?

The answer is compliance with international standards. HID Global has worked extensively to ensure the interoperability of our e-document

technologies and products. Our e-document products comply with ISO standards, EU regulations and standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for machine-readable passports. In fact, our document readers achieve top results in ICAO interoperability tests. In addition, our products and e-document production sites satisfy all other relevant industry standards, such as ISO 9001:2000 certification and Common Criteria EAL 5+ for computer security.

The multi-function advantage of e-national ID cards.

National ID cards are nothing new to millions of people around the world. But national IDs based on HID smart card technology offer a surprising array of potential functions. HID Global is a leader in both secure contact and contactless smart card technologies, which makes us an ideal partner for e-national ID card programs.

Storing a qualified digital signature on a smart ID card, for example, enables e-Government applications such as electronic tax declarations, notary services, social insurance services and so on. Lower costs, time savings and higher quality service are just some of the advantages to e-national ID cards based on HID Global smart card technologies.

Card-based secure credentials begin with Fargo Card Printer/Encoders.

Fargo Card Printer/Encoders fit just about every secure identity application you can think of, from on-the-spot issuance of e-national ID cards and e-driving licenses to high-volume production of health program ID cards. Factory-installed and field-upgrade options let you configure Fargo printer/encoders (depending on the model) for single- or dual-sided card printing, single- or dualsided lamination, and encoding for contact and contactless smart cards, proximity and magnetic stripe cards.

One of the advantages of working with HID Global on e-Government projects is our ability to provide critical system components, from secure credentials to document readers. Our manufacturing experience stretches back to 1964, and we have 20 years experience in secure contactless technology transponder manufacturing. HID Global is the only company in world with more than one highly automated production facility that is both ISO 9001:2000 certified and CC EAL 5+ security certified with a zero balance system as part of its security. Our annual production capacity for secure contactless technology transponders is approximately 250 million units from five global manufacturing sites.

Of course, what we don't manufacture ourselves, we source. Our multi-sourcing concept with tight supplier relationships accounts for our neutral market position and guarantees the best choice of components for our customers.

E-documents.

HID Global makes a wide range of secure credential products, including smart cards and visual security overlaminates, and e-document secure contactless technology components. We manufacture inlays and

prelaminates, complete with microcontroller chips and operating systems, that turn printed passports into high-security e-passports. These products can be integrated into various form factors: passport cover pages, e-covers, customized data pages and tamper-evident visa stickers. Inlays can be used with all standard passport production equipment. Secure contactless technology is also used in card-based applications such as national ID cards.

Since e-passports must withstand 10 years of use, HID Global has innovated and developed a new process: wire transfer technology that seals copper wire antennas into e-document inlays and prelaminates. Wire transfer allows the use of highly durable and flexible materials such as ceFLEX™ which adds durability and ensures long life for e-documents.

Secure credentials.

Beyond e-documents, HID Global is an industry leader in card-based secure credentials. HID smart card and proximity card technologies are used around the world for secure ID and access control systems. Our Fargo Card Printer/Encoders are highly regarded choices for both on-the-spot issuance of secure ID cards, and large volume card production.

We also provide visual security protection for secure credentials and e-documents. We partner with leading manufacturers to develop high-security holographic overlaminates for our smart ID card products. Ideal for applications such as e-national IDs, e-driving licenses, and e-Health cards, these overlaminates include up to 40 optically variable security features to deter the most sophisticated counterfeiting attempts.

E-document readers.

Anyone who has stood in a long passport control queue will appreciate the importance of a fast e-document reader. Fortunately, HID Global makes some of the fastest e-document readers on the market. HID Global reader module platforms are based on the developments and experience of three market leaders: ACG, Integrated Engineering and OMNIKEY. These brands, now part of HID Global, have been recognized in the government segment and proofed at all ICAO interoperability tests to be at the top of their classes.

HID Global e-document readers are available as plug-and-play desktop units and as OEM components. A firmware update option offers years

of future-proof operation. And a cost-effective upgrade option turns existing OCR swipe passport readers into fully ICAO compliant e-passport readers.

Components for the real world.

The biggest technical hurdle when implementing an e-passport-based border control system is the interoperability between the transponders and the readers. The readers are the most complex element of the system; they must be compatible with a variety of chips and 20 to 30 different operating systems.

HID Global works with a large number of leading OEMs and can address any requirement for e-document hardware and software components: from integrated circuits, modules and inlays to reader components, personalization software and training. HID Global also provides our clients with independent consultancy and training services through our most experienced secure contactless technology, microcontroller and ICAO specialists. For government suppliers confronted with the challenge of adding an "e" to their secure credential products, HID Global offers our complete support.

Improving the health of health care IDs.

Leveraging e-Government expertise, Germany's e-Health program is one of the most ambitious smart credential projects in the world. Currently in a trial stage, the system is designed to improve collaboration between millions of health care professionals and provide enhanced services to their patients.

Since the German system is heavily dependent on networking, HID Global developed the special LAN-connected, multiple-interface e-Health card terminal shown above. Our participation in this project has sparked development of a new generation of HID LAN-connected smart card readers for future applications beyond e-Health.
