SmartID®

■ What is SmartID®?

SmartID is HID's new 13.56 MHz reader family that focuses on ISO 14443A (MIFARE®/DESFire®) full sector read/write. The brand SmartID was originally created by Integrated Engineering (IE), a company HID Global purchased in early 2007.

■ How does SmartID compare to iCLASS®?

SmartID augments HID's existing iCLASS offering by providing additional flexibility (MIFARE and DESFire compatibility) to customers that require custom form fit to ISO 14443 card populations.

■ What technologies do HID's 13.56 MHz reader lines support?

There are two:

• iCLASS; Primary Technology = PicoPass
• SmartID; Primary Technology = MIFARE/DESFire

All readers falling within the iCLASS family will continue to support iCLASS reader functionality, including MIFARE CSN. iCLASS does not support full sector MIFARE/DESFire access control applications. All readers falling within the SmartID family will continue to support MIFARE/DESFire access control applications. SmartID does not support iCLASS access control applications.

■ What is SmartTRANS®?

SmartTRANS is a multi-technology product line extension of SmartID, similar to multiCLASS® as a product line extension of iCLASS. SmartTRANS is the family of SmartID readers that provides dual-technology (125 kHz and 13.56 MHz) compatibility.

■ How does the SmartID® product family compare with the iCLASS® product family?

Comparable to the way that the iCLASS brand encompasses all iCLASS compatible readers and modules from the R15 to RW300 to RPK40 to OEM150, the SmartID brand encompasses all SmartID compatible readers and modules. Small variations in form factors and keypad options cause the following slight differences in form factors and keypad options for finished readers:

• HID MIFARE
• IE standard formats
• IE custom formats (per customer definition)
• FlexSmart® formats (HID p/n's 6072, 6073, 6076, 6077)
• HID Prox (all formats, SmartTRANS with HID Prox)
• Indala Prox (all formats, SmartTRANS with Indala Prox)
• Standard keypad outputs, same as HID Prox and iCLASS
